The Ney is the oldest instrument in the Arabic and Eastern music. It is believed to have been made 5000 years ago. In addition to oud, kanoun and percussion, ney is a part of this classical setup in Arabic music.

It was very popular in Turkey, Iran, Sham countries and Egypt. Primitively made of bamboo that grows close to water. Nowadays ney is an eminent member in the Arabic orchestras.

Many experiments have been conducted to approach ney academically and to integrate it in orchestras, jazz ensembles and film soundtracks. Several curriculums exist to teach ney in Turkey, Egypt and Iran. But knowledge of all these methods is the key to build a good ney player.

The classes

Tammam approaches ney teaching through his wide experience of methods. Beginners and advanced students have the chance to explore this amazing instrument under his supervision in an academic and rich approach.

For beginning students, a lot of empasis will lay on the basic blowing technique, that we will practise with different arabic scales. As soon as you master this technique we will explore a repertoire of Arabic and Turkish music. Obviously, the typical repertoire of Aleppo (Syria) will also be covered.

Knowledge of music theory is an advantage, but not a requirement.

These are individual classes of half an hour per week. You can arrange a weekly time slot with the teacher.
