Seyir Trio (TUR) ft. Tcha Limberger | Trio Tatavla (GR)

This double CD launch performance combines Turkish harmonies with Greek harmonies. Its common thread is specialist Tcha Limberger, who lends his subtle and delicate violin melodies to both concerts.

Seyir, Arabic for “journey” or “path”, sets the tone for the trio’s performance. Passionate lovers of classical Ottoman music, the three unite their instruments to tackle a musical repertoire well-known to them, for having played in other musical projects featuring Turkish music (Lâmekan Ensemble…) The oud, the violin and oriental percussion instruments find a strong identity, laden with profound respect for the music that has been transmitted to them. Each member of the Seyir Trio garners attention as a soloist, while embracing rhythms and melodies in a new approach to classical Ottoman music. Tcha Limberger lends his sensitivity and virtuosity throughout the concert, as he did on this new album that they’ve come to launch.

Tatavla unites some of the great musical talents that we relish at Muziekpublique. Tcha Limberger, along with the great accordion virtuoso Dimos Vougioukas, explore with Tatavla the marvels of Greek music present in Istanbul and Smyrna in the 20th century, before the arrival of Rebetiko. The zeybek, Karsilama, Hasapiko and Kalamatiano rhythms, ornamented by a quarter-tone similar to Turkish makam, add intrigue. The pair are accompanied by guitarist Benjamin Clément, known for his vast knowledge of the subtleties of Central and Eastern European music, as well as his collaboration with Nedyalko Nedyalkov, Roby Lakatos, Kiriakos Gouventas and Marcel Ramba.
