Du Bartas create a festive atmosphere with their five voices, an accordion, a bass drum, a tambourine and an oriental violin. There are southern influences, from nearby and further afield, in their songs, which show the capacity of popular music to make the heart beat faster and stronger.
The repertoire is made up of songs from Languedoc collected by Laurent Cavalié, as well as others before him. Although the issues tackled in the songs are universal, Du Bartas’ rhythmical interpretation is innovative. Rhythm, having fun and sharing a good time are all central to the group’s approach. By questioning, stretching and playing with these Languedoc songs, they manage to create an incredible energy, with vocal and rhythmical effects that draw comparisons with Latin American music …. Whatever its origins, this music makes people get up and move ! Du Bartas will be presenting their new CD Es contra ta pèl. “It’s a convincing album by a group that always impresses live.” (MONDOMIX)
