At the end of the 19th century, the tango was danced in some houses in Buenos Aires by men who had immigrated from Europe and the South American countryside. These 3 million men had left their families to come to Buenos Aires in the quest of happiness, with many of the Italians ending up staying. In the dance salons, they would practice the dance steps between themselves before putting them to use later on with women …Musically, the tango has traditionally been a masculin musical style, but things have changed alot since!
Cantango illustrates this change with their feminine and passionate reinterpretation of the tango. Cantango presents its first cd ‘Imaginar’ which is a mix of tango woven in with their own compositions. A few of the pieces are even composed and played by the tango master: Juan Carlos Caceres !
And of course, this tango show would not be complete without a couple of dancers, which we are given in the form of Dante and Monik Dominguez.
