Queimada

Wim Baeck (B)
Moïraï (B)
Faï Petar (France)
A Contrabanda (Galicia/B)

Friday 31 october 2008, 20.00, Maison du Peuple/Volkshuis, St-Gillis Voorplein 37-39 Parvis de St-Gillis, 1060 Brussels

This edition of the queimada (our traditional folk dance night) features two outstanding folk trios. Moïraï – an all-female Belgian group including Sabine Jacot (violin, vocals), Marinette Bonnert (diatonic accordion) and Claude Demulder (clarinet, flute, vocals) – has been together since 1998, playing a repertoire of dance tunes from throughout Europe. However, these modern-day incarnations of the ‘Fates’ of the ancient world have a distinct preference for the dances of Wallonia - Et traversez moi ça! Trempe ton pain, Marie! A violin solo from Wim Baeck is a new item that will keep the dancing going during the scene change before our next trio. The French group, Faï Petar, hails from the contemporary folk scene of the Auvergne and offers a wonderfully balanced mix of musical accents, playing scottishes, mazurkas, bourrées and waltzes that should delight all the dancers. The trio is made up of Basile Bremaud (violin), Sonia Rogowski (clarinet) and Freddy Dussaillant (diatonic accordion). And lastly, age cannot wither nor custom stale the infinite variety of the traditional midnight fanfare by the Galician bagpipe group, A Contrabanda.
